Waterbury Man Arrested for Series of Larcenies

Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the arrest of a Waterbury, CT man for multiple larcenies in the eastern part of the county in the last year.

On March 2, 2024, a deputy took a report from a Southeast businessman who said his work truck had been broken into overnight, and approximately $15,000 worth of tools had been stolen.

On February 4, 2025, a deputy took a report from a different Southeast business that approximately $12,000 worth of tires and rims had been stolen from a storage container overnight.

On January 14, an investigator was advised of another break-in of a storage container in the Town of Patterson and the larceny of numerous tools. Investigators developed a suspect and conducted surveillance of the subject.

On February 27, Michael Petro, 53, was interviewed. He admitted to all three instances and said he sold most of the items for cash. Some of the tools were recovered and will be returned to their owners.

Detectives from the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office also interviewed the suspect for crimes in their county. Petro was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility pending a future court hearing.
