Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the following DWI arrests over the Saint Patrick's Day holiday weekend.
On March 16, 2025, at approximately 1 am, a deputy while on routine patrol observed a vehicle which was southbound on Route 22 in the Town of Southeast failing to maintain its lane of traffic. While following the vehicle, the deputy also observed the vehicle pass through a red light without stopping. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver was observed to be intoxicated and failed the roadside field sobriety tests. Deputies arrested 24-year-old Jacob T. Westcott of Dover Plains, NY and charged him with felony Driving While Intoxicated, for having a previous conviction within ten years, Aggravated DWI for having a blood alcohol content over .18%, and traffic citations for Fail to Maintain Lane and Passing a Red Light. Westcott was transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility where he was processed and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable in the Town of Southeast Court at a future date.
Also, on March 16 at approximately 4 am a deputy observed a vehicle on Danbury Road in the Town of Southeast which was unable to maintain its lane of traffic and failing to signal a turn. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver, identified as 38-year-old Alix D. Fugon-Avila of Durham, NC, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated and traffic citations for Fail to Maintain Lane, Insufficient Turn Signal, No Seat Belt, and Unlicensed Operation. He was processed at the Correctional Facility and released with an Appearance Ticket returnable in the Town of Southeast Court.
On March 17 at approximately 1 pm a deputy observed a vehicle cross over the double yellow line and the white fog line and a traffic stop was initiated on Route 6 near John Simpson Road in the Town of Southeast. The driver, Justin Lanuto, 37 years old of Danbury, CT, was observed with open bottles of liquor in the vehicle and was unable to perform the roadside field sobriety tests and was subsequently taken into custody. He was processed and charged with misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated and issued traffic citations for Drinking Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, Driving to Left of Pavement Markings, Move From Lane Unsafely and Unsafe Turn. Lanuto was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable in the Town of Southeast Court.
