On April 19, 2024, at approximately 12:15 pm, a student at the Putnam Valley High School reported to school administrators that she observed a fellow student sitting in a car in the parking lot of the school holding what appeared to be a gun.
There was a delay in the report, and by the time the School Resource Officer assigned to the school was advised, the suspect student had already left the campus.
An investigation was quickly able to ascertain the identity of the student and the fact that he was at the Northern Westchester BOCES campus, where he took classes in the afternoon. New York State and Yorktown Police Officers instituted a hold in place for all students and staff at the BOCES campus while they searched for and interviewed the student. It was determined that the item that he was holding was a water pistol and not a firearm. All classes resumed as normal.
