2 From the Bronx Charged With Stealing Mail

Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the arrest of two individuals for stealing mail from household mailboxes in the Continental Village area of Philipstown.

On July 10, 2024, at approximately 12:20 pm a resident called the Sheriff's Office to report that they witnessed an unknown subject take mail from their mailbox on Steuben Rd and gave a description of the subject and the vehicle.

A Deputy was dispatched to the area and observed the suspect vehicle, at which time he made a traffic stop, and numerous pieces of mail were located in the vehicle. Deputies arrested Devonte A. Hamilton and Kadon J. Jackson, both 22 years of age and both of the Bronx. Hamilton was charged with felony Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, and Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree, Criminal Impersonation 2nd Degree for using a fake name, and Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification 3rd Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd Degree, all misdemeanors, along with numerous Vehicle and Traffic violations. Jackson was charged with misdemeanor Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree, Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification 3rd Degree.

Both were issued appearance tickets to return at a future date in the Town of Philipstown Court.

The investigation is ongoing, and Sheriff's Office Investigators have consulted with the United States Postal Inspectors and are working with other law enforcement agencies to identify additional victims, as the suspects were found in possession of multiple checks.
