Sheriff Brian Hess announces the arrest of Brandon Tompkins, 41, of Southeast, New York, following a road rage incident that resulted in felony weapon and menacing charges.
On June 20, 2026, at approximately 8:15 p.m., members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported menacing with a firearm following a road rage incident in the Town of Southeast.
The complainant reported that during a road rage incident on Peach Lake Road (Route 121), a male operating a black flatbed pickup truck stopped his vehicle, exited, and displayed a handgun. The victim was able to drive away and contact 911. The suspect then fled the area.
While en route to the call, a responding deputy quickly located a vehicle matching the description provided by the complainant and conducted a felony traffic stop. Additional deputies responded to the scene and took the driver into custody without incident. During the investigation, deputies recovered a loaded Glock .45 caliber handgun from inside the vehicle.
Following the investigation, Tompkins was identified as the individual involved in the incident.
Tompkins was charged with:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Loaded Firearm), a Class C Felony
- Menacing in the Second Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor
Tompkins was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court, where bail was set at $500 cash or $1,000 bond.
