The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office offers a Dark House Check service for residents who will be away from their home for an extended period. This service allows deputies to periodically check on a residence while the homeowner is out of town in an effort to help maintain security and deter criminal activity.
When a Dark House Check is requested, patrol units may conduct extra patrols in the area and, when appropriate, visually inspect the exterior of the residence for signs of suspicious activity or forced entry. If any issues are observed, deputies will take appropriate action and attempt to contact the homeowner.
Please note that this service does not guarantee protection against burglary or other criminal activity. Residents are encouraged to continue using standard security measures, including locking doors and windows, using timers for lights, and notifying trusted neighbors of their absence.
