Violent Suspect Wanted for Arson and Assault Captured After Pursuit

Acting Sheriff Brian Hess reports the arrest of Nathan Pineda, 31 years old of Brookfield, Connecticut, following a multi-agency vehicle pursuit in Southeast during the evening of September 24, 2025.

Danbury Police had issued a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) for Pineda after he allegedly set fire to his mother's vehicle and assaulted his girlfriend with a knife. Members of the New York State Police located Pineda's vehicle traveling northbound on I-684 and attempted to stop him. Pineda continued to flee, driving recklessly and striking two Sheriff's Office patrol vehicles. His vehicle was eventually disabled, and he was taken into custody on I-84 eastbound at the Connecticut state line.

A search of Pineda's vehicle recovered the weapon allegedly used in the Connecticut assault as well as an open container of alcohol.

Pineda was charged in New York with:

  • Attempted Assault 2 -- Class E Felony
  • Criminal Mischief -- 2nd Degree -- Class D Felony
  • Reckless Endangerment -- 2nd Degree -- Class A Misdemeanor
  • Obstruct Governmental Administration -- 2nd Degree -- Class A Misdemeanor
  • Resisting Arrest -- Class A Misdemeanor
  • Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer -- 3rd Degree -- Class A Misdemeanor
  • Reckless Driving -- Class U Misdemeanor
  • Multiple traffic Infractions

He was transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for processing. Pineda was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and is awaiting extradition to Connecticut.
