A Special Statement from the Sheriff's Department

Independence Day

Independence Day is just around the corner. While we are enjoying the festivities with friends and family, let us be mindful of our veterans and refrain from the use of fireworks that may cause unnecessary stress to those who valiantly served to protect our freedoms and now suffer from PTSD.

For those of us with pets, please be responsible and leave your pets at home safely secured indoors. Our pets do not understand what the loud explosions are or where they come from and think to look for a safer location. It is not uncommon for a pet to break out of your home through a screen door or window in an attempt to escape from the noise.

We would also like to remind everyone that fireworks are not permitted with the exception of sparkling devices which are ground based or hand held and produce a shower of sparks. Other effects may include a colored flame, smoke, a crackling sound, or a whistle effect. They do not rise into the air like Roman candles nor do they explode.

Let’s all have a safe and happy Fourth of July!
Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr.
