Shoplifter Held as a Fugitive From Justice

Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the arrest of a Baltimore, Maryland, woman on larceny charges.

On December 29, 2023, deputies from the Narcotics Enforcement Unit observed a vehicle linked to an organized retail theft group parked outside a business in the Town of Southeast. Shortly after, they observed a male and female leave the store with merchandise and enter the vehicle. Deputies made contact with the subjects, and the female provided forged identification documents and provided them with a fictitious name. She was later identified as Ana Codreanu, 19 years of age. The male was determined to be a juvenile relative of Codreanu. Deputies confirmed a theft of approximately $8,000 worth of merchandise from the store through surveillance footage.

Further investigation revealed that Codreanu had three active warrants in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for similar crimes and had stolen items from other area businesses earlier in the day.

Codreanu was charged with the following felonies: Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree, and misdemeanor Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

CPS was contacted, and the juvenile was turned over to a relative.

Codreanu was arraigned in the Town of Kent Justice Court and released on her own recognizance for the charges from the Town of Southeast. She was ordered held without bail as a fugitive from justice while she awaits extradition for her out-of-state warrants.
