Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports that the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office seasonal Marine Patrol Unit is in full-swing patrolling the waterways throughout Putnam County.

The Marine Patrol, staffed by a team of highly trained sheriff’s deputies, is patrolling areas of the Hudson River, Lake Oscawana in Putnam Valley and Lake Mahopac in the Town of Carmel.

“The Sheriff’s Marine Patrol Unit is launched each year to ensure boating safety and assist vessels and swimmers in distress aimed at promoting an enjoyable recreational season for those using our lakes and the Hudson River,” said Sheriff Donald B. Smith. “Although we always urge boaters to abide by all navigational laws and seek their voluntary compliance, marine deputies will be on hand to enforce these statutes by issuing tickets and effecting arrests when necessary,” concluded the Sheriff.

Anyone wanting more information about boating safety may call Sergeant Michael Szabo at the Sheriff’s Office (845) 225-4300 ext. 42266.
