This month, 22 Members of the Sheriff's Office completed Crisis Intervention Training (CIT).
This is part of the Sheriff's Office's ongoing strategy of collaboration with our Putnam County Deptartment of Mental Health. The goal of CIT is to better equip deputies with the knowledge of how to respond to calls involving crises. The five-day training curriculum included topics consisting of identifying behaviors to improve communication, de-escalation tactics, awareness of resources and community advocate services, and role-playing / scenario-based training.
Pictured are members who graduated from the most recent session instructed by the Director of the Institute for Police and Mental Health & Community, Don Kamin, PH.D. These members will now be able to better respond to crisis incidents and work more effectively with our Co-Responder Team which responds and conducts follow-up engagements on crisis-related incidents within the county.
