Late last evening, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer was contacted by the Putnam Valley School district regarding an allegation where a student was photographed possessing what appeared to be a firearm while on school grounds.
Upon receiving this report, the Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation. As a result, the student was identified, interviewed at their residence and did not attend school today. The investigation remains active with collaboration between the Sheriff's Office and the School District.
There is currently no threat to the safety and security of Putnam Valley schools, and normal operations are continuing district wide.
Please be aware that all statements or actions that suggest a threat to the safety and security of the Putnam Valley Schools will be taken seriously in collaboration with the Sheriff's Office. Any such action comes with significant consequences, even if they are made jokingly and/or are deemed as not credible.
