Sheriff Reports Recent Narcotics Unit Arrests

Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the following arrests by the Sheriff's Office Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) members.

On August 26th, 2024, at approximately 2:50 pm, members of the NEU were patrolling in the Town of Southeast when they observed a vehicle with a Virginia license plate that expired in 2016. They observed a male seated in the driver's seat appearing to snort a white powdered substance believed to be cocaine. The male, identified as Ahmed A. Haider, age 32, of East Haven, CT, was detained, and a search of his person and the vehicle yielded a quantity of cocaine and buprenorphine.

Haider was arrested and transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility, where he was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a misdemeanor. He was released with an appearance ticket pending a future court date in the Town of Southeast Court.

On August 13th, 2024, Christopher R. Weale, age 37, of Newburgh, failed to appear in the Town of Southeast Court for two open cases with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. One case was for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, and the other was for Bail Jumping in the 3rd Degree. The Honorable Judge Vercollone of the Town of Southeast court issued two separate bench warrants for both cases.

On September 25th, 2024, Weale was arrested by the City of Newburgh Police Department for an unrelated crime and was held for outstanding bench warrants. Weale was then turned over to NEU members and charged with two new counts of Bail Jumping in the 3rd Degree.

Weale was again arraigned before the Honorable Judge Vercollone of the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond pending future court appearances.
