Sheriff Reports Recent DWI Arrests

Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the following Driving While Intoxicated arrests as a result of increased St. Patrick's Day weekend DWI enforcement.

On March 16, 2024, at approximately midnight, a deputy observed a vehicle driving on Fair St in the Town of Carmel with a loud exhaust and unable to maintain their lane. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver, fifty-four-year-old David Yaskovic of Carmel, was observed to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was given field sobriety tests that he failed. He was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff's Office for processing. He was charged with misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated DWI for having a blood alcohol content higher than .18% and vehicle and traffic violations of Moving From Lane Unsafely and Loud Muffler Exhaust System.

He was released with an appearance ticket to appear at a future date in the Town of Carmel Court.

On March 17 at approximately 4 am, a deputy observed a vehicle stopped on Argonne Road in the Town of Southeast with the engine running. The deputy contacted the operator, Roberto Valenzuela-Morales, 31 years of age, of Danbury, CT, who appeared to be sleeping and detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from him. The operator had trouble standing due to his high level of intoxication and was placed under arrest. He was processed at the Sheriff's Office and was charged with misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated DWI for having a blood alcohol content higher than .18%. He was also given tickets for Unlicensed Operation, Operating with No Insurance, and Stopped on a Public Highway.

He was released with an appearance ticket to appear at a future date in the Town of Southeast Court.
