Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the following Driving While Intoxicated arrests over the Thanksgiving holiday.
On November 26, 2024, at approximately 5 pm deputies were dispatched to a two-car motor vehicle accident with injuries on Route 311 near McManus Road North in the Town of Patterson. Upon arrival deputies observed a Honda Civic which was on the shoulder of the roadway and a Honda Passport which was overturned in the middle of the roadway. Through interviews with the drivers and other motorists who witnessed the accident it was determined that the Civic was westbound on Route 311 when the Passport, which was eastbound, crossed over into its lane and the vehicles sideswiped each other. The driver of the Civic was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment and the driver of the Passport, identified as Agustin Flores, 30 years of age of New Milford, CT was observed to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and charged with DWI, Aggravated DWI for having a BAC of .18% or higher, Driving to Left of Pavement Markings, Moved From Lane Unsafely and No Seat Belt. He was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released with an Appearance Ticket returnable in the Town of Patterson Court.
On November 28 at approximately 12:30 am a deputy observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 52 and turning on to Fair St. in the Town of Carmel. The vehicle almost struck the deputy's vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver indicated obvious signs of being impaired and failed field sobriety tests. The driver, Nascimento Samara, 42 years old of Stormville was arrested and charged with DWI, Fail to Obey a Traffic Control Device and Moved From Lane Unsafely. She was processed at the PC Correctional Facility and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable in the Town of Carmel Court.
On November 30 at approximately 2:40 am deputies stopped a vehicle on Route 22 in the Town of Southeast after it was observed failing to maintain its lane of traffic. The driver, Erick Gamez-Castillo, 28 years old of Dover Plains failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with DWAI Drugs and Alcohol, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree, AUO 3rd degree, Operating a Motor Vehicle With No License, Drinking Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle and Moved From Lane Unsafely. He was processed at the Correctional Facility and issued an Appearance Ticket for a return date in the Town of Southeast Court.
On December 1 at approximately 3:15 am deputies stopped a vehicle on Danbury Road for failing to maintain its lane of traffic. The driver, 32-year-old Arnolfo Morales of Danbury, CT failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Moved From Lane Unsafely. He was processed at the PC Correctional Facility and released with an Appearance Ticket for a future court date in the Town of Southeast Court.
In addition, on December 4 at approximately 3 am, a deputy observed a vehicle that was stopped on the I84 westbound exit ramp at the traffic light at Route 312 in the Town of Southeast and failing to move when the light turned green. The driver, identified as Peter Nusser, 54 years old from New Milford, CT was observed to be under the influence of alcohol. He failed roadside field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested and transported to the PC Correctional Facility where he refused to submit to a chemical test. He was charged with Felony DWI for having a previous conviction within ten years, Refusal to Take a Breath Test, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Proper License and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Using a Portable Electronic Device. It was revealed that Nusser had numerous open warrants against him, and he was held pending arraignment in the morning.
