With the escalating hostilities in the Middle East and the extensive aerial attack Iran conducted against Israel yesterday, The Putnam County Sheriff's Office remains increasingly vigilant and continues to take proactive measures to keep our county safe.
Some of the measures we enact during heightened threat environments include extra visibility at pre-determined locations. As such, you may see us more often; this is a safety measure and not a cause for alarm. If you have any concerns about the security of a particular location, the PCSO has trained personnel who can conduct site security assessments and offer recommendations. To obtain this service, you can call us at (845) 225 -- 4300, and we will schedule a time to provide you with an assessment.
Given the heightened threat environment, we would like to remind everyone to report any observed suspicious activity to the PCSO right away. Subjects taking photos or asking probing questions regarding security measures that are in place at religious institutions, posting inflammatory or threatening messages on social media, or making suspicious or unusually large purchases of material that could be utilized to make an improvised weapon should be reported.
In addition to reporting by telephone at (845) 225-4300, the PCSO has developed an online threat reporting system. WWW.PCTAM.NET can be accessed from any internet browser. This will bring you to a short series of pre-determined questions that have been identified through past investigations of acts of violence that predict potential threats. You have the option to remain anonymous when reporting in any format.
The PCSO remains in constant communication with the state and federal intelligence centers to act upon and provide information to our town and village law enforcement within the county to insure all are protected.
At present, there has been no identified, specific or credible threats, or concerning information regarding our region or the nation in general.
We will continue to diligently monitor and stay in communication with our federal , state and regional law enforcement partners and our Members will remain vigilant.
