Route 9 Accident Kills Beacon man

Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the investigation of a fatal motor vehicle accident on Route 9 in the town of Philipstown on January 17, 2025.

At approximately 1:30 pm, Putnam County 911 received multiple calls of a serious motor vehicle accident on Route 9 south of Route 403 in the Garrison area. Sheriff's Office members and emergency personnel from the Garrison and Continental Village Fire Departments, Garrison Volunteer Ambulance, and Empress Emergency Medical Services all responded. With the assistance of the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, the preliminary investigation has determined that a southbound vehicle operated by 74-year-old Norton Segarra of Beacon, NY, crossed into the northbound lanes and was struck by a tractor-trailer truck that was traveling northbound. Mr. Segarra was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the truck, 60-year-old Glen Cochran of Milford, CT, was transported to Westchester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The roadway remained closed until 9:30 pm, and the investigation into the cause is ongoing.
