Putnam Officials to Meet on School Safety

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports that Putnam County law enforcement leaders, school district administrators and other local government officials will meet tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Sheriff’s Office to discuss security issues at schools and other public facilities, in the wake of the violence that occurred last Friday at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in nearby Newtown, Connecticut.

A portion of the meeting will be closed to the public and the media to allow officials to discuss specific security issues that, if disclosed publicly, would imperil public safety. Following the closed segment, the meeting will be opened to representatives of the media, who are invited to arrive at the main lobby of the Sheriff’s Office at or about 1:15 P. M. The Sheriff’s Office is located at 3 County Center, off Fair Street in the Hamlet of Carmel.
