Sheriff Kevin J. McConville announces the arrest of a New Windsor, NY, man after leading police from multiple jurisdictions on a pursuit.
On January 8, 2025, at approximately 11:30 am, Putnam County 911 received multiple calls reporting a male subject who was in the roadway on I84 westbound near I684 and appeared to be attempting to stop cars. As a deputy and a New York State trooper arrived at the location, the subject, later identified as Ian Assad Morgan, 34 years of age, got in a vehicle that was parked nearby and began to flee. He then led multiple Sheriff's deputies and troopers on a pursuit westbound on I84 and then eastbound and then back again westbound, where he avoided spike strips that were set up to attempt to stop him. Morgan then exited at Route 311 and continued on local roads in Patterson, Kent, and into Carmel, where he eventually stopped after striking a Carmel PD vehicle on Route 6 south of Baldwin Lane in Mahopac.
He was taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing. During the pursuit, Carmel High School was put on a temporary Hold in Place, which has since been lifted.
