Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the arrest of a Peekskill, NY man for burglary of a Cold Spring building.
On April 1, 2025, investigators from the Sheriff's Office were dispatched to assist Cold Spring PD with a burglary investigation. It was learned that sometime during the overnight hours someone had forced entry into a Main Street building and had taken items, including jewelry, and spray-painted graffiti on the interior and exterior walls and on a couple of street signs. Through review of video surveillance in the area and working with other law enforcement jurisdictions, investigators were able to develop a suspect. On April 28, investigators arrested 46-year-old Jason M. Blume and charged him with class D felonies of Burglary 3rd degree and Grand Larceny 3rd degree and misdemeanor Making Graffiti. Blume was arraigned in the Village of Nelsonville Court before the Honorable Judge Nenz and was released pending a future court date in the Village of Cold Spring.
On May 4 at approximately 12:45 am, deputies were dispatched to a business/residence on Route 9 in the Town of Philipstown for a possible burglary in progress call. Upon arrival, they met with the owners who advised that they were awakened by someone banging on their door and when they went to check, they saw a subject run away from the area. Deputies observed the front glass door to the business was smashed and the door to a car on the property was open. Additional Sheriff's Office personnel arrived and began checking the area. A FLIR instrument was utilized to check the surrounding wooded area, and it detected the heat image of a subject crouched down in the bushes. The subject was taken into custody and was identified as 53-year-old Luis Sanchez of Fishkill. He was charged with Attempted Burglary 3rd degree and Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd degree, both class D felonies. He was also charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, a class E felony. Sanchez was arraigned in the Town of Philipstown Court and was released pending a future court date.
