Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the arrest of a former Mahopac resident for issuing a bad check and not repaying a loan to a local Mahopac business.
In January 2025, the victim contacted Sheriff's investigators to report that he had made numerous attempts to collect over $8,600 for services rendered and an additional $5,000 for a personal loan that he had made to the suspect.
In March, when the suspect had still not repaid his debt to the victim, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, who was believed to be living in New Jersey and Florida.
On April 23rd, investigators were notified that the suspect, Michael B. Salzman, 49 years old of Montvale, NJ, was arrested in Bergen County, NJ on the Sheriff's Office warrant, and they responded to bring him back to Putnam County. Salzman was charged with Grand Larceny 3rd degree, a class D felony, and Issuing a Bad Check, a class B misdemeanor. He was arraigned before the Honorable Judge Mole in Putnam County Court and released with the stipulation that he check in weekly with Putnam County Probation.
