Motorists Face DWI Charges

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the recent arrests of motorists on DWI charges.

On November 28, 2015 at approximately 12:34 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Kevin Radovich responded to a report of a dispute at 29 Marsh Hill Road in the Town of Putnam Valley. The complainant had reported that the suspect had driven away from the scene in an intoxicated condition. Upon arrival, while interviewing the complainant, the deputy observed the suspect pull into the driveway of the residence from Marsh Hill Road. The deputy determined that the suspect, identified as Michael C. Sherpf, 49, of 1209 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor, New York was intoxicated. The deputy arrested Mr. Sherpf and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after the man failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

On December 1, 2015 at 2:26 a.m., while on patrol in the Village of Brewster, Deputy Sheriff Keith Blessing observed a suspicious vehicle that was running and occupied by two people in the parking lot of a Main Street business that was closed for the night. Upon investigation, the deputy determined that the driver, identified as Francisco Fernandez-Arguenta, 23, of 161 Main Street, Brewster was intoxicated. The deputy arrested Mr. Fernandez-Arguenta and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after the man failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
