Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. reports the arrest of a Beacon Man for littering on New York State Park Lands in the Town of Philipstown. On Sunday, February 28, 2021, at about 2:35 PM the Putnam County 911 Center received a call from a resident that a person was dumping debris over an embankment along Indian Brook Road in the area of the Route 9D overpass. Deputy William Verrastro responded to the area and located a large pile of construction debris while Deputy Robert Weinberg searched for the suspect. Deputy Weinberg observed the suspect’s vehicle and quickly detained the suspect who was then arrested by Deputy Verrastro and charged for Littering under the Town of Philipstown local law. Additionally, the New York State Park Police and the New York State Environmental Conservation Police assisted in the case, each of whom charged the defendant with violations under the New York State Parks Law and the New York State Conservation Law. Community Policing and Multi-Agency Cooperation is an effective and productive approach in keeping our community a great place to live.
