Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the arrest of a Hoboken, NJ, man on narcotics possession charges, as well as additional penal and vehicle and traffic law charges.
On March 6, 2024, at 12:15 p.m., the Real Time Crime Center at Westchester County Police headquarters broadcast an alert that a vehicle wanted in connection with fleeing a traffic stop in Elmsford was traveling northbound in Putnam County. Narcotics Enforcement Unit investigators, who were in the area, located the vehicle traveling northbound on Peekskill Hollow Rd. The car then continued briefly into the Town of Yorktown before traveling northbound on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Putnam Valley.
The unregistered vehicle, which had switched plates, stopped on the Taconic Parkway, just north of the Bryant Pond Road exit. The driver was then taken into custody without further incident.
The vehicle's operator, Sean P. McDermott, age 34, of Hoboken, NJ, possessed a quantity of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, Unlawful Fleeing an Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree, along with other vehicle and traffic law violations.
McDermott also had an outstanding extraditable felony Bench Warrant out of Pennsylvania for failing to appear for a DWAI drugs arrest. Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that the warrant was active. McDermott was also processed as a Fugitive from Justice.
McDermott was arraigned by the Honorable Judge Douchkoff of the Town of Kent court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility pending a County Court hearing. On March 7, 2024, the Honorable Judge Spofford of the Putnam County Court remanded McDermott to the Correctional Facility pending an extradition hearing for Pennsylvania.
