Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the arrest of a former Kent resident for obtaining over $12,000 in welfare benefits by fraudulently submitting documents.
In March of 2024, the Department of Social Services advised a Sheriff's Office investigator that a case involving one of their clients appeared to indicate that assistance funds were paid to this client over two years based on filing false documents. A lengthy investigation commenced, and numerous documents and other evidence were gathered.
It is alleged that the defendant, 31-year-old Ruby Guillen, who currently resides in the Bronx, submitted false documents, including sworn statements, to DSS to obtain benefits she was not entitled to.
On August 28, Ms. Guillen appeared at the Sheriff's Office; she was arrested for one count of Welfare Fraud in the 3rd degree, a class D felony, and ten counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the 1st degree, a class E felony.
She was arraigned in the Town of Kent Court before the Honorable Judge Douchkoff and was ROR'd to appear at a future court date.
