Fatal Route 311 Accident Investigated

On June 19, at approximately 11:50 pm, deputies were dispatched to Route 311 just south of Caroline Drive in the Town of Patterson for a two-car motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment.

On arrival, deputies found an Infiniti on the shoulder of the roadway and an Acura off the roadway that had hit a tree. The driver of the Infiniti, 35-year-old Ayesha Smith of Patterson, told deputies that she was driving north on Route 311 when she observed the Acura driving southbound and coming towards her in her lane at a high rate of speed. She attempted to turn to avoid a collision. The Acura struck her vehicle on the passenger side and continued off the roadway, where it struck a tree.

Ms. Smith was transported to Danbury Hospital by Patterson Ambulance for injuries. The driver of the Acura, who had no identification and took several days to identify, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Subsequently, he was identified as Rashan Hall, 24, of Waterbury, CT. His passenger was also transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment.

Members of the Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police Troop K Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating the accident. The Patterson Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene with traffic control and medical aid.
