Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle accident in the Town of Southeast.
On December 2, 2024, at approximately 8:30 am deputies were dispatched to John Simpson Road for a serious head-on motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Honda CRV which was southbound on John Simpson Road crossed over the double yellow line and struck an Isuzu box truck which was northbound. The driver of the Honda, 82-year-old Anna Catullo of Shrewsbury Massachusetts was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Isuzu, Xavier Quindetenempaguy, 45 years old of Carmel was transported by Empress ambulance to Danbury Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit was called in to assist Sheriff's Office personnel with the investigation and Brewster Fire Department assisted at the scene with the accident and the road closure. The roadway remained closed between Root Ave. and Route 6 while the accident was investigated and reopened at 11:50 am.
