East Fishkill Man Arrested for Fentanyl Possession Following Traffic Stop in Southeast

Sheriff Brian Hess announces the arrest of Jake F. Colyard, age 36, of the Town of East Fishkill, New York, following a traffic stop conducted by members of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office Conditions Unit in the Town of Southeast.

On January 2, 2026, at approximately 5:01 p.m., members of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office Conditions Unit observed a gray Honda Accord traveling on the Interstate 84 westbound on-ramp from Route 312 in the Town of Southeast with an expired inspection sticker. During the course of the traffic stop investigation, it was determined that the operator was in possession of a white powdery substance, later determined to be fentanyl. The operator was subsequently placed under arrest.

Colyard was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a Class A misdemeanor, and issued a traffic ticket for operating a motor vehicle with an expired inspection sticker. He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court at a later date.
