Bookkeeper Charged With Stealing $97,000 From Employer

Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the arrest of a Waterbury, CT, woman for stealing over $97,000 from her former employer.

On April 8, 2024, members of the Sheriff's Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) were advised by a business owner in the Village of Brewster that they suspected that the bookkeeper/office manager that they had hired in January was taking funds from the company's payroll and operating accounts. An investigation was begun, and Investigators analyzed numerous financial documents and conducted interviews with the company owner and manager about the bookkeeping discrepancies.

On April 23, 45-year-old Marlenin Vito surrendered herself to Investigators and was charged with Grand Larceny in the 2nd degree and Falsifying Business Records 1st degree, both felonies.

She was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court before Judge Vercollone where she was ROR'd to appear at a future court date in the Village of Brewster.
