59-Year-Old Man Charged with Trespassing at Putnam Hospital

Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the arrest of a Newark, NJ, resident for a suspicious incident at the Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel.

On October 25, 2024, investigators met with hospital security, who advised that they had been alerted to a suspicious male who had entered the hospital by following an employee through a card access door. He was observed on video walking within the building with what appeared to be no legitimate purpose. Investigators were able to identify a vehicle that he was using and, over the next several months, were able to develop a suspect. In December, an arrest warrant was issued by the Honorable Judge Miller in the Town of Carmel Court, charging 59-year-old Edward V. Alexander with Criminal Trespass in the 3rd degree.

On January 21, 2025, investigators were advised by the Orange County Correctional Facility that Mr. Edwards, who they were holding on a Burglary charge, was being released from their facility but would remain in custody on the PCSO warrant. Investigators responded and took Mr. Edwards into custody and brought him to the Town of Southeast Court, where he was arraigned in front of the Honorable Judge Vercollone and ordered to be fitted with an electronic ankle monitor by the Putnam County Probation Department. Edwards was transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility, where Probation secured the monitor, and he was released pending a future court date in the Town of Carmel Court.
